WordPress is an open-source content management system that was founded by Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little. It is used to create websites and blogs. WordPress founders were part of another blogging software called b2/cafelog, but once it was discontinued they created what is now powering about 43% of internet websites.

WordPress.org is powered by the same software as WorPress.com, however WordPress.org allows you to obtain the source code or software to create a website/blog, and then find a hosting provider. WordPress.org also requires the user to be more involved in the customization and maintenance. A lot of other features such as security, performance and other features, depend on the user's hosting provider.

While WordPress.com runs with the same software as WordPress.org, it has a lot of features that, depending on the user’s needs, might be beneficial in order to maintain a website or blog as hosting is included. There are different plans at different prices based on the user’s needs. There are some benefits to using this platform as users do not need to have a lot of experience, it offers high protection against internet risks and threats such as hackers and malware. It also offers other features such are a wide variety of themes, plugins, and support forums for users.

Both WordPress.org and WordPress.com offer a lot of opportunities for users when they are starting to create a blog or website. Based on the level of experience or needs the users have, either one of these options could be a good choice for someone to either create, build and/or maintain a website or blog. The several options that they have allow people to make an informed decision to make a choice to be able to meet their needs.
